Whew! I just returned from a 900 mile bike road trip to Laughlin, Nevada. Three friends and I attended the Laughlin River Run, the largest motorcycle rally in the western United States. Although exhausted, bug-filthy and sunburnt, we had a blast fulfilling our bad biker selves. I ride nearly every day, but this trip put the phrase “long ride” into a new context. Our route took us through the backroads of Temecula and Hemet, the mountains of Idyllwild, and across the scorching hot and windy Mojave desert. What a thrill (and relief!) to finally see the city of Laughlin appear on the horizon.
An estimated 75,000 bikers packed the city for the 4-day event, forming a spectacular “Harley Nation,” united by denim, leather and the rumble of V-twin engines. Definitely one of those “you had to be there” experiences!
