Nick Abadilla Photography Blog bio picture

Welcome …

I'm Nick Abadilla, and I work as a professional photographer based in San Diego, California. Here's a quick snapshot (pun intended) of my life …

I've been happily married to my lovely wife Nance for over 18 years, and together we raise our beautiful and vibrant ten-year old daughter, Sophie who gives us reason to smile and laugh each day. We've traveled the world as a family, and are all the better for it. This year's destination – Anhui Province, China.

I started my business in 2002 following 20 intense but rewarding years in the graphic design industry. With corporate life behind me, I found myself doing a lot of really deep soul searching, ultimately realizing it was time to honor my long-time passion for photography. So with my wife's blessing, I wholeheartedly embraced it as a profession and haven't regretted it for a second. Working from a cozy 900 square foot artist studio in downtown San Diego's Little Italy section, I specialize in distinct wedding photojournalism, custom portraiture and assignment photography. My love for the craft will be evident once you step inside.

With this blog I give you a glimpse into my life behind the camera. I hope you find the posts interesting, entertaining, and maybe even inspiring from time to time. Your comments are most welcome and encouraged. And don't forget to check out my main site at abadillaphoto.com!

Kristy & Jim’s Wedding

The very neat thing about destination weddings is that, not only do family and friends gather to celebrate the couple’s big day, but everyone shares in the cool vibe that goes with a weekend getaway. Add to the mix the genuine hospitality from Kristy and Jim’s Cuban and Alabama families, and you’ve got a spicy-fun weekend in store!

Kristy and Jim’s intimate outdoor wedding took place at the Inn at Morro Bay, a lovely little seaside retreat nestled in California’s central coast. As I photographed their ceremony on the sundeck overlooking the bay, my head was, literally, in a cloud. Although Friday’s rehearsal was held under blue skies and warm sunshine, we woke the following morning to a thick fog bank that pressed into the coast and remained throughout the day. This didn’t dampen (hey, a pun!) Kristy and Jim’s wedding day spirits, however, and the mystical whiteness actually gave their ceremony a serene, ethereal quality. How many couples can claim that they were married amidst the clouds? The added bonus was that the soft, even lighting was absolutely exquisite for portraiture, so I was happy. And if this photographer is happy, you think it affects his creativity, hmmm?    :)

Kristy and Jim, thank you for accommodating my family and I, and for just being your personable, happy selves. Your parents raised you both well. There’s a very natural, feel-good quality about your marriage and you two will most definitely go the distance.
