Nick Abadilla Photography Blog bio picture

Welcome …

I'm Nick Abadilla, and I work as a professional photographer based in San Diego, California. Here's a quick snapshot (pun intended) of my life …

I've been happily married to my lovely wife Nance for over 18 years, and together we raise our beautiful and vibrant ten-year old daughter, Sophie who gives us reason to smile and laugh each day. We've traveled the world as a family, and are all the better for it. This year's destination – Anhui Province, China.

I started my business in 2002 following 20 intense but rewarding years in the graphic design industry. With corporate life behind me, I found myself doing a lot of really deep soul searching, ultimately realizing it was time to honor my long-time passion for photography. So with my wife's blessing, I wholeheartedly embraced it as a profession and haven't regretted it for a second. Working from a cozy 900 square foot artist studio in downtown San Diego's Little Italy section, I specialize in distinct wedding photojournalism, custom portraiture and assignment photography. My love for the craft will be evident once you step inside.

With this blog I give you a glimpse into my life behind the camera. I hope you find the posts interesting, entertaining, and maybe even inspiring from time to time. Your comments are most welcome and encouraged. And don't forget to check out my main site at abadillaphoto.com!

Back. Hurts. A Lot.

I love staying in touch with several of my past wedding customers, and seeing them define their new life together has been a joy. Common to many is that dreamy pursuit of first home ownership. Claiming their stake of land. A barbecue grill in the backyard. Maybe even a swingset! Well gang, here’s a glimpse into the reality of owning that roof above your head …

There’s always an issue. With something.

We’ve been pestered with a nagging termite issue these past few years and finally opted to have our home fumigated. Yup, our home will be draped with that familiar fat-striped circus tent thing this weekend and then it’s GOOD NIGHT TERMITES. To prep for this gaseous event, we had to cut back all our shrubs, trees and plants at least 12 inches from the exterior walls to allow for the draping of The Big Top. After a rigorous day of pruning, hacking, chainsawing, and raking, this life-in-the-suburbs detail has taken it’s toll on my legs and lower back. Pass the Motrin. Now, please.

As many of you know, this is on the heels of our recently-completed kitchen remodel, so our life had been a bit – actually more than a bit – chaotic for a couple of months. Pics to come, by the way. We were just settling back into normality. I don’t know what we were thinking, but hey, at least we’ll be done with it.

Until the Spring. The sprinkler system needs some serious attention. And then there’s that overgrown tree root.
