What first attracted me to Sonia and Didier was their international flair. It didn’t hurt that we shared the same passion for travel, for unique, challenging adventures. Didier’s thick French accent certainly boosted that first impression (just what is it about the French?), as did Sonia’s penetrating, mischevious eyes. I recall thinking to myself, I like these two! Their small, intimate July wedding at the elegant Grand Del Mar is sure to be a first class affair and a perfect fit.
The e-session plan was a late afternoon shoot under Crystal Pier in Pacific Beach. The soft light reflecting off of the sand into the underside of the pier produces a wonderful light for portraiture. Such was the case when arrived. Perfect light. Yet once again the chilly winds posed a problem, swirling through the pier pilings with no rhyme or reason and wreaking havoc with Sonia and Didier’s hair. We gave it our best effort for about ten minutes, but ultimately conceded victory to Mother Nature.
Ah, but all was not lost! With ample daylight left, we jumped in Didier’s car and headed to Kate Sessions Park about five minutes away. Now with the winds and temperature much more agreeable, the long rolling hills became our portrait playground and Sonia and Didier revealed their fun-loving, playful side. Maybe it was the fact that we were rolling around on a grassy hillside, but the image of two lion cubs kept popping into my head as I watched these two through my lens!
I can tell that Sonia and Didier are a couple who will squeeze the most out of life and always be smiling, even laughing through the journey. And isn’t that just how life should be?
