One of the nice perks from shooting for the Mo`olelo Performing Arts Company is being on the guest list for each production’s opening night. Nance and I are always quick to seize these opportunities for a Date Night. Last week I photographed the dress rehearsal for Good Boys, a riveting play by Jane Martin and directed by Artistic Director Seema Sueko. You may also remember the photo session we did for the play’s identity on a chilly evening in January. Good Boys opens tonight at the La Jolla Playhouse and having caught only bits and pieces of the play, I’ve been anxiously awaiting this night. Here’s the synopsis from Mo`olelo’s website:
Two fathers. A school shooting. Eight years later, how do we forgive and heal?
Good Boys is the story of two men, one black one white, who meet eight years after a school shooting in which both their sons died, one a victim the other the shooter. As the fathers search for understanding and viciously cast blame, they confront difficult questions about vengeance and responsibility. Is it possible to heal?
Grabs your attention, doesn’t it?
The Mo`olelo Performing Arts Company is the first theatre group to gain residency and the La Jolla Playhouse, and has achieved a great deal of local and national recognition with their relevant, socially conscious productions. Additional details, showtimes, and ticket information are available from their website.
