I strolled through the gates of the world renown Salk Institute in La Jolla, eyes looking left and right for Pearl and Anthony. Suddenly I stopped dead in my tracks, halted by a breathtaking sight. There Pearl stood waiting atop the marble steps at the courtyard entrance, framed against a backdrop of vivid blue morning sky. I took it as a sign that today had creativity written all over it! And not just because it was a spectacular day, but Pearl and Anthony are creative in their own right. Anthony a web designer, and Pearl an architect, both with a heightened sense of form and balance. Bring it on. I love shooting for people with a flair for design.
It was Pearl who suggested we shoot their e-session at the Salk Institute, sensing that it’s monumental presence would inspire all of us. Always receptive to a new location, I was a happy camper. It didn’t take me long to notice the innovative use of form and space, and how the natural light and cast shadows contributed greatly to the overall aesthetic. Pearl and Anthony seemed to blend comfortably with the environment, as if this was the absolute perfect location for them. Shot after shot, I got a kick out of watching them share their tender affections, at times oblivious to my lens. Or maybe they were just really at ease with being photographed. I love that in a couple.
Either way, these two are great. Their uniqueness, their inclination for all things different, they proclaim, will be evident on wedding day, and I anxiously await what they have in store!
