Kettner Nights this Friday

I’m sure a bunch of you are still slowly gearing-up following all the holiday madness, one hand shielding our eyes as we squint to see what’s ahead for 2012. Or even better yet, drafting a game plan to impact change in our lives. Lots to think about, hopefully all good.

But oh, the pressure of change! So, as a brief respite from your life-altering agenda, consider coming downtown for another Kettner Nights. This is the periodic open house event (the second Friday of every other month) in Little Italy Art and Design District where several artists, galleries, and creative retailers open their doors to the public from 6-9pm. My studio will be open as well and ,as always, I look forward to seeing my friends, old and new. Let’s catch-up, share our plans for the year, and talk about how much weight we gained over the holiday break. Or not.

I took this photo of photographer/bride while attending a friend's wedding in Narita, Japan several years ago. Still amongst my all-time favorites.

My friend and colleague, Xavier Bailey, captured this kinetic image of me doing my thing at Katie and Scotty’s wedding at the La Costa Spa and Resort. Watch for their pics on the blog soon. I really dig this shot because it gives you an idea of how hard we wedding photojournalists work to deliver dynamic images : )

As we fan ourselves through this local bout of heat and humidity, I find myself drifting back to our 2009 trip to Egypt, and last year’s trip to China. If you think it’s hot here, you ain’t seen nothin,’ baby. 100+ scorching degrees, easily. China had humidity to match. The long, cold hotel room showers were a highly anticipated daily event. Everyone together, say aaaahhhhhhh …

So gang, as much as I dig opening my studio for Kettner Nights, I’m going to pass it up this Friday. If you’re looking to escape the heat, my photo cave is just not the place to be right now. Still fun, still cool, but not cool if you know what I mean. Factor-in the collective body heat of a few dozen guests and, well. I’ll catch you during the November 11th Kettner Nights, so watch your inbox for the invite.
