Candace & Cullen’s Wedding

When I attended Candace and Cullen’s wedding rehearsal, I picked up on the ‘family’ vibe right away. Both sides were so loving and supportive, and with the joyous holiday spirit still lingering, everything felt just perfect.

Their post-Christmas wedding took place on a gorgeous, crispy cool day at Saint Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Scripps Ranch, still elegantly adorned with Christmas decor. I arrived early, only to be pleasantly surprised that everything was running ahead of schedule. As a result, our pre-ceremony photo session was relaxed and unhurried, and the fact that Candace and her bridesmaids were entertainingly giddy was an added bonus!

Cullen, quiet, relaxed, and ever the gentleman, remained tucked away in the church, averting his eyes from the stunning bride just steps away from the door. When the wedding ceremony commenced and Candace at last glided into view, Cullen’s beaming grin spoke volumes. Friendship, love, family, kids – all communicated in a timeless moment.

Candace and Cullen, it was a pleasure to photograph your special day, Mariachis and all. I look forward to delivering several special and memorable images that you can share with your children. And grandchildren.

The Drive Home

Forget the megapixels, or the which camera should I buy? dilemma. Just shoot. Shoot simply for the love of it, for the sheer beauty of the photographic image, for the infinite possibilities. Shoot with deliberation. Or randomness. Or wild abandon. Be techy. Be a craftsman. Be silly.

Shoot. Learn. Evolve.

Holiday Wishes

Seems the pro photographer waited too long to shoot his family’s holiday portrait, so we’ll have to forego printed cards this year. Oh well, good for the environment, right? We’ve had a very full year loaded with challenges, discoveries and rewards. We’re thankful for our wonderful circle of family and friends. We’re launching into 2009 with an ambitious agenda, and here’s a preview of what’s in store: complete kitchen remodel; larger office/photo studio; travel to Egypt, China, and __?__.

I hope 2009 is your year. Learn to scuba dive. Buy that guitar. Or that house. Dine out more. Pop the big question. Acknowledge what brings you joy and make your move before too many years whiz by.

I hope to post a few more updates before the New Year, but just in case the holiday frenzy distracts me from all things internet, from my family to yours, Season’s Greetings!

Gingerbread House in Da House

Corny title, I know. Still, there’s something about a gingerbread house that helps kick your holiday spirit into full gear. Great job, Sophie. Remember don’t EAT it until we take our family photo!

Oh, the Choices!

Lindsey and I met last week to finalize her wedding book layout and reacquaint her with the many options available (cover style, paper, etc.). Although the books are printed and bound by GraphiStudio in Italy, I take great pride in keeping the design process internal, a collaborative effort between my assistant Deb and I, because I want to ensure that the pages truly communicate my customer’s very special day. After all, I was actually there. I still recall every minute, every shot of Lindsey and Alex’s eventful wedding. This last stage of the design process is a wonderfully reflective time, the cummulation of the photographic effort.

As I’ve often said to my brides, their book will be treasured by their children’s kids. Pretty amazing when you think about it, and a wonderful testament to the impact of photography in our lives.
